Science is a Team Sport
In our lab, we believe that science is the ultimate team sport. Each member of the Lindell Lab brings unique expertise, perspectives, and skills that drive discovery and innovation. Whether it’s clinicians translating real-world challenges into research hypotheses, bioinformaticians unraveling complex datasets, or bench scientists designing and performing cutting-edge experiments, every role is critical to our success. Our diverse team thrives on collaboration, where shared goals and open communication create a dynamic environment for tackling the complexities of critical illness and immune dysfunction.
We are fortunate to be part of a vibrant research community at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania, which provide an unparalleled network of collaborators, mentors, and sponsors. This environment fosters synergy across disciplines, from computational biology to clinical research, enabling us to push boundaries and accelerate the translation of discoveries from bench to bedside. In this setting, we don’t just work together; we grow together, inspired by the shared mission of advancing science to transform the lives of children.
Current Lab Members:

Brad Lindell, MD
Assistant Professor of Anesthesia, Critical Care, and Pediatrics
Brad is a physician-scientist whose long-term goal is to develop precision immunotherapies for pediatric patients with sepsis. By identifying treatable multi-omic subphenotypes of sepsis, Brad aims to design rapid diagnostic tools and targeted interventions that improve outcomes for children with critical illness.

Steven Ham, MD, MPH
Post-Doctoral Fellow,
Pediatric Critical Care Medicine
Steven is a physician-scientist who joined the lab as a post-doctoral fellow in 2024. He completed his pediatrics training at Cohen Children’s Medical Center and is currently a fellow in pediatric critical care medicine. Steven has experience in transcriptomics analysis and is developing expertise in multi-omics analysis.

Sydney Sheetz, BA
Research Technician III
Department of Critical Care Medicine
Sydney is a research technician with a background in chemistry who joined the lab in 2024. She has expertise in designing, conducting, and analyzing flow cytometry assays, and she leads the majority of our lab’s wet bench experiments. After completing her work in the lab, Sydney plans to pursue a career in medicine.

Teresa Arroyo, BSN, RN
Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator III
Teresa is a PICU nurse and a clinical research coordinator who joined the lab in 2022. She oversees screening, enrollment, and sampling of critically ill children in for the TIDES and MOSAICS immunobiology studies in the lab.

Stephen Famularo, BA
Clinical Research Study Manager
Stephen is a clinical research coordinator who joined the lab in 2022. He oversees screening, enrollment, and sampling of critically ill children for the PARADIGM-SHIFT and LIONS immunobiology studies in the lab.

Cindee Levow, BSN, RN
Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator II
Cindee is a clinical research nurse coordinator who joined the lab in 2023. She oversees screening, enrollment, and sampling of critically ill children for the multicenter TROPICS study.

Apoorva Babu, MS
Bioinformatics Scientist II
Apoorva is a biomedical engineer with expertise in single cell RNA-sequencing and multi-omics analysis who joined the lab in 2024. She leads our bioinformatics analyses and manages the biologic data repository for the lab.

Veronica Kirchner, BA
Data Programmer Analyst II
Veronica is a data programmer with expertise in integration of complex clinical metadata with translational experimental data. She designs and implements computation screening and EHR data extraction efforts for the lab.
Lindell Lab Alumni:

Amelia Demopoulos, BA
Clinical Research Coordinator,
Massachusetts General Hospital
Amelia studied biomarkers of arterial line injuries in critically ill children as an undergraduate researcher in the Lindell Lab. She is currently a clinical research coordinator in Boston, MA.

Brandon Stormes, MD
Attending Physician, Pediatric Critical Care, Sunrise Children’s Hospital
Brandon studied intracranial hemorrhage in pediatric cardiac intensive care patients on ECMO during his post-doctoral fellowship at CHOP. He is currently an attending physician in Las Vegas, NV.
